MGMT 3009: Bennis Leadership Accelerator

"In a time of drastic change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists."

~ Warren Bennis

In the Fall '22 semester I was enrolled in an Honors Seminar called Bennis Leadership Accelerator, which also fulfilled my BA 3080 class requirement as a business student. The class focused on the teachings of Warren Bennis, who was not only UC's president, but also an exceptional leader. The lectures comprised of comprehensive discussion of various leadership aspects and topics that were covered in the material we read the previous week. Throughout the semester we got to listen to various leaders both through videos and in-person interactions. The course was structured to be very reflection based with 3 primary projects:- Best-Self Profile, Problem-Solving Leadership, and Vision Story and Leadership Goals.

One of my most favorite things about the class was the collaboration aspect of it. I got to work with great team members and interact personally with Dean Lewis, who I have always looked up to. The project that interested me the most was the Vision Story. It gave me an opportunity to reflect and look into the future to determine what goals I would like to set for myself and where I would like to be in 10 years. Through this project, I was able to gain more clarity on what I would want my future to look like and how I would want to work towards it.

When I took this class, I was unsure of how much I would enjoy it because of the number of leadership seminars I have already attended in the past. But the thing that set this course apart was the participation of students from different majors and backgrounds, all bringing in a unique perspective. The projects and the interactions I had as a part of this class are something that I will always carry with me throughout my time at UC, and in the future too!
